Pull tensioner pulley to its furthest point and tighten lock bolt.ģ. Replace tensioner spring whenever timing belt is replaced.Ģ. Mark the direction of timing belt rotation (on the timing belt) for proper reinstallation.ġ. Remove tension from power steering (P/S) and/or airĬonditioning (A/C) compressor drive belt.Ĥ. ![]() Loosen power steering lock bolts and nuts accordingly and Install the remaining components in the revere order of the removal noting the following torque specifications:Ĭrankshaft pulley: 9-13 ft.Rotate the crankshaft clockwise 2 turns and be sure all marks are still correctly aligned.Loosen the tensioner pulley and allow the tensioner spring to apply tension on the belt, then tighten the lockbolt to 28-38 ft.Install the timing belt onto the pulleys, as follows, crankshaft pulley first, then the idler pulley, exhaust camshaft pulley, intake camshaft pulley, and the tensioner pulley.Install the timing belt tensioner pulley, move the tensioner to its furthest point and tighten the lockbolt.Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley.If the timing belt is to be reused, mark the direction of rotation on the timing belt.Verify that the I and E mark on the camshaft pulley align with the mark on the cylinder head.ĭo not move the crankshaft or camshaft once the timing marks have been correctly positioned.Position the crankshaft so that the timing mark is aligned with the timing mark on the engine.Remove the upper and lower timing belt covers.Remove the water pump and crankshaft pulleys.Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.Install A/C drive belt and adjust belt tension.Install generator drive belt and adjust belt tension.Install power steering drive belt and adjust belt tension.NOTE: Replace tensioner spring if timing belt deflection is excessive.Apply a force of 22 lbs to timing belt between camshaft sprockets.Tighten timing belt tension lock bolt to 27-38 ft lb (32-52 Nm).Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of rotation and check that timing marks are still in alignment.NOTE: No looseness should exist on the tension side and at the camshaft pulleys. Align marks on camshaft pulleys with alignment marks on seal plate.Align marks on timing belt pulley and pump body. ![]()
